Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, the first woman to be popularly elected Mayor of Freetown, was sworn in on the 10th May 2018 and started work on the 13th May. As she approaches her 1st 100 days in office, Insight will be taking a look at some of the highlights.
Her first move was to put forward a strategy for the sustainable development of Freetown.
To achieve this vision the people of Freetown will have to:
Capitalise on their vibrancy and initiative
Learn to fully value the unique importance of their environment
Rediscover the energy and dynamism that made Freetown the jewel of West Africa
Embrace positive change, accept individual responsibility and take ownership.
